This landscaping project in Hendra, Brisbane involved transforming a backyard pool area into a practical and family friendly outdoor space. The homeowners were undertaking a broader renovation and wanted a durable lawn area that would function as a safe play space for children while also improving access around the pool.
Effective drainage was a key priority, as water management issues needed to be resolved before the family moved back into the home. Ecovia Turf was engaged to deliver a complete solution combining drainage improvements, landscape detailing and artificial turf installation.
Project Brief and Site Challenges
The family engaged Ecovia Turf as part of a backyard renovation project in Hendra, with the goal of creating a clean and functional outdoor environment around the swimming pool.
The lawn area was intended primarily as a play space for children, while also providing convenient access between different parts of the yard.
However, the site required significant drainage improvements before landscaping could be completed. In addition, restricted site access and a fixed renovation timeline meant the project needed to be carefully planned and executed efficiently.
Artificial Grass Installation Solution
Ecovia Turf designed a solution that prioritised drainage performance, usability and detailed finishing throughout the landscape.
Extensive drainage works were completed across the site, including the installation of 60 lineal metres of strip drains and four additional drainage pits. Approximately 60 tonnes of imported base material was used to stabilise and regrade the area, ensuring the new lawn surface would perform reliably over time.
To improve access around the pool area, natural stepping stones were incorporated into the landscape design. Each stone was individually set into the base and the artificial turf was precisely cut around them so the pathway sat flush within the lawn. This approach allowed the stepping stones to integrate seamlessly into the surface while maintaining a soft play area for children.
Once the drainage and base works were completed, the team installed 150m² of EcoAbode 30mm artificial turf, creating a durable and visually cohesive lawn area around the pool.
Despite restricted access and a tight construction timeline, the project was completed on schedule to meet the client’s move in date.
