Project Background: Capalaba Artificial Grass Installation
Gavin from Capalaba, Brisbane, contacted Ecovia Turf to help his elderly mother make her backyard safe and usable again. The property sat lower than neighbouring homes, which were retained on higher walls. This caused constant water seepage and poor drainage, leaving the heavy clay soil saturated.
Because of these conditions, the garden was always wet and difficult to maintain. Gavin’s mother, who used a walker, couldn’t tend to her plants or move through the space safely. The goal was to design a low maintenance, dry, and accessible garden that would stay usable year round.
Artificial Turf Installation Process
The project began with excavation and removal of dense grass and topsoil. Beneath the surface, we uncovered compacted clay that was holding water — a major cause of the site’s poor drainage.
Our team installed subsurface drainage lines to redirect water away from the garden area. Once drainage was addressed, we built a new stabilised base using compacted crushed rock and crusher dust to ensure long term stability and water flow.
Next came the Eco Life 35 mm synthetic turf installation, carried out with precision to create a level, natural looking surface. New timber edging framed the garden beds, while mulch and plantings completed the design.
