Sustainable artifical turf solution for Brisbane Pool Centre
Ecovia Turf recently completed a large scale commercial artificial turf upgrade at the Clem Jones Centre in Carina, a well known Brisbane City Council facility. The project focused on revitalising the swimming pool surrounds to create a safer, more durable and low maintenance outdoor space.
With over 400m² of new artificial turf installed, the result is a clean, functional and visually appealing area designed to handle high foot traffic while improving drainage and usability for visitors of all ages.
Project Brief and Site Challenges
The existing artificial turf around the pool area had reached the end of its lifespan and was no longer performing effectively. The surface was uneven, creating trip hazards, and the underlying base had not been constructed using suitable materials.
Poor drainage was a major issue, with water from both the pool and surrounding areas not dispersing correctly. This led to pooling water, reduced usability, and long term deterioration of the surface.
Brisbane City Council required a solution that would improve safety for children, elderly visitors and general foot traffic, while also delivering a more durable and sustainable outcome.
Artificial Turf Installation Solution
The site was completely reworked to address both structural and drainage deficiencies. The existing artificial turf was carefully removed and repurposed to minimise landfill waste.
A new, properly engineered base was constructed to create a stable and level surface, significantly improving longevity and performance. Additional drainage points were installed to efficiently manage water runoff from both the pool and surrounding turf areas.
To further enhance accessibility and reduce wear on the turf, Ecovia Turf collaborated with a concreter to install a new concrete pathway. This created a clear, direct route through the space, helping to minimise foot traffic across the turf while improving safety for all users.
The area was finished with approximately 400m² of EcoAbode 30mm artificial turf, a premium product chosen for its durability, drainage capability and sustainability. The system includes sand infill to support fibre resilience and long term performance, backed by a 12 year product warranty.
