Sunshine Coast Artificial Turf Recreation Precinct Upgrade
Ecovia Turf completed a major artificial turf upgrade at a busy recreation precinct on the Sunshine Coast, delivering a safer, more durable and environmentally responsible surface for the community.
The project involved replacing 1,500m² of ageing artificial turf, upgrading surrounding infrastructure and improving the site’s long term performance. With the precinct experiencing high daily usage, the new installation was designed to withstand heavy foot traffic while providing a cleaner, more sustainable outcome for the surrounding environment.
Project Brief and Site Challenges
The existing artificial turf had reached the end of its service life and was showing significant signs of deterioration. Damaged fibres, rubber infill and plastic materials were breaking down and washing into surrounding areas, creating maintenance concerns and environmental risks.
In addition to the failing turf system, the existing timber retaining wall had deteriorated and required complete replacement. The site also presented logistical challenges due to its high level of public use, as well as the presence of climbing equipment and ropes course infrastructure throughout the precinct.
The client required a complete solution that would improve safety, durability and environmental performance while minimising disruption and delivering a long lasting result.
The Ecovia Turf Solution
Ecovia Turf managed and delivered the entire project in-house, providing complete control over quality, scheduling and project execution from start to finish.
The existing artificial turf and failed retaining wall were removed before extensive site preparation works commenced. A new base was constructed to provide a stable foundation capable of supporting ongoing high volume use.
To address the structural requirements of the site, approximately 100 linear metres of concrete retaining wall with steel posts was installed, replacing the failed timber structure and delivering a significantly more durable outcome.
The turf installation incorporated two products selected to suit different usage requirements throughout the precinct. A 24mm short pile artificial turf was installed in high traffic pathway areas where durability and wear resistance were critical. The majority of the site, approximately 1,200m², was completed using EcoAbode 30mm artificial turf, chosen for its natural appearance, durability and sustainable benefits.
The result is a modern recreation space that offers improved performance, enhanced environmental outcomes and a significantly longer service life.
